Photo: BeerForDogs.comThe dog in the photo above isn't drinking real beer, he is drinking dog beer, made by the Dog Star Brewing Company. They call their dog beer Happy Tail Ale, and it is non-carbonated and non-alcoholic. Happy Tail Ale is fortified with glucosamine and vitamin E, with all human grade ingredients. It is made with malted barley and filtered water, with a natural beef flavor. I was considering purchasing some of this dog brew, but when I went to the Dog Star Brewing Company website, they claim to be taking a hiatus from their dog beer making.
I found another company in the UK, selling dog beer. It is called "Kwispelbier", which means "wagging a tail" in Dutch.

It is produced in the Netherlands, out of beef extract and malt. It is actually being sold at a higher price than Heineken can fetch. All this reading about dog beer has made me wonder if I could make my own at home. I could call it "CoCo The Beer Drinking Dog Brew." My version wouldn't be near as fancy. I would probably store it in old recycled plastic water bottles. For the label, I could print out a cute picture of me stretching out on my back. Mix filtered water, beef extract, and add some dog vitamins. Tada.
