How to make a dog house

I've been interested in making a dog house lately, and am surprised by all the free dog house plans that are available. If you're handy with tools, this would be a fun hobby. You can make a dog house for your own dog, sell dog houses as a part time business, or even donate dog houses to outdoor dogs that otherwise might be left out in the cold. Whether you are a beginner, or an experienced carpenter, you can probably find a plan that will be perfect for your level of skill. I'm actually a beginner, therefore I'm not even going to attempt to go step by step in how to build a dog house on my blog. Instead, I'm listing links of different places that you can find complete and free plans to make your dog house.

Insulated Dog House - This is an amazing dog house that would help to keep your dog warm outside this winter. In extreme cold though, dogs should be kept indoors. This dog house plan has very clear detailed directions, but it's probably not for the beginner.

Basic Dog House - This is a basic dog house with a few extras, like a front porch and removable roof. It is great for a beginner as the entire project requires only one sheet of plywood, two 2"x4"s and one 2"x2".

Insulated Dog House - This is another insulated dog house plan, and the plan designer says it's inexpensive and made out of recycled building materials. This dog house looks REALLY nice, but it would probably be difficult for a beginner. Although this website lists a variety of other free dog house plans as well. In addition, you can find an even wider variety of free dog house plans on Free Woodworking Plans.

On a side note, here is an organization called Habitat For Hounds dedicated to bringing kids together to build dog houses for dogs in need.
